Episode 18 (Season 2) Rest: Silent Retreats Guests: Mary Springer, Sarah Wood, Victoria Webster

Wednesday, June 29, 2022

About the Episode:
Join us for a series on Rest in which we discuss what it means to take time to be still in a world that is so addicted to activity. We are going to talk about how rhythms of rest, stillness, and quiet can be a blessing in our lives. In this episode, we talk to Mary Springer, Sarah Wood, and Victoria Webster about their experience having gone on a Silent Retreat. We are made to need rest just as Jesus, being fully man, needed time away to rest and pray as well. This episode explores the power of Christ’s love in His omnipresence, the liveliness of scripture especially when we are alone with it, and the restoration that comes from prayer and stillness, knowing that He is God.

A silent retreat is an extended time in which an individual seeks to be alone with the Lord to listen and be transformed by His Word and Spirit. At a specific place for a specific amount of time, a person retreats (stops) from their everyday routine and relationships to meditate (listen) on God’s Holy Word and then do what His Word says (follow). The purpose of a silent retreat is to STOP! LISTEN! FOLLOW! On a retreat, the goal for each participant is to open the Word of God and listen. A Bible and journal are all that is needed to bring. Good things, even music, books, instruments, computers, and cell phones can also keep us from hearing the voice of God through His Word and Spirit. Each person on a retreat is going to pray and meditate and listen for God’s agenda, not his or her own. As the Lord leads, we are confident that He will make Himself known in a way that will have a profound impact on each participant.
