Sanctuary renovation begins this June

By Robert Rucker

Published January 8, 2005 in This Week

As part of our Capital Campaign, sanctuary renovations begin this June. We’ll bring mechanical systems up to code, improve traffic flow, upgrade some architectural details, and prepare for the installation of an organ to support congregational singing.

We’ll be out of our sanctuary from June through December 2005. We’re asking everyone to be flexible, patient, and especially understanding through this brief disruption.

We will have three worship services in Fellowship Hall. An 8:00 am service will be like our current Wednesday evening Vespers communion service, with no childcare provided. Worshipers will come forward to receive the elements that have been prepared by one of our Sunday school classes and other PCPC families. We will continue 9:30 and 11:00 am services similar in format to our present services, with the same preacher for the three services.

Fellowship Hall seats about 800 people. With three services, we can accommodate around 2,400 worshipers, about as many as we have on Sunday mornings now.

Many talented people continue working on the details of our life together during renovation. We’ll keep you updated on the various facets of our worship: How will congregational singing be supported? What about flowers, sacraments, bulletins, and ushers?

Remember, flexibility and patience are the key. Have a happy new year!

In the next issue, look for an update on ushers, bulletin format, continuation of the sacraments, and flowers.
