PCPC explores workplace ministry ideas

By Bill Peel

A group has been meeting with Pete Deison for the last few months to discuss how PCPC can best address the work life of its members and capitalize on the tremendous influence they can have for God’s Kingdom.

Why is this important?

First, working men and women at PCPC spend 45% to 70% of their waking hours in work-related activities. For many, work is the dominant area of their life.

Second, the Bible has a great deal to say about the workplace:

  • God created work as an essential part of life.
  • There are more verses about work than about worship.
  • Of Jesus’ 132 public appearances in the New Testament, 122 were in the workplace.
  • Of the 52 parables Jesus told, 45 had a workplace context.
  • Jesus spent 90% of his life living and working in a small business.
  • Jesus called 12 workplace followers to build His church.

Third, working men and women are already strategically deployed for spiritual impact, as the majority of their relationships at work are with non-Christians.

Fourth, PCPC members influence an estimated 70,000 people during the week, many times more than gather for Sunday services.

Fifth, neglecting to disciple Christians in how their faith should impact their work life is neglectful, biblically substandard, and wasteful.

Therefore . . .

PCPC is seeking how best to inspire, equip, and intentionally deploy its members to take their faith to work.

The opportunity

PCPC has an opportunity to intentionally inspire, equip, and deploy workplace missionaries to develop godly character, integrate biblical wisdom in daily decision making, and effectively leverage their influence and businesses for God’s Kingdom. By helping men and women take their faith to work, PCPC can:

  • Elevate Kingdom awareness by making members aware of their place and strategic role in God’s plan.
  • Equip men and women to live out their faith on a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week basis and apply biblical principles to their daily work.
  • Extend PCPC’s impact to 25 times the number of people who attend a Sunday service.
  • Leverage the influence of members to transform companies, communities, and cities into God-honoring entities.

A core group of PCPC leaders and members will assess the needs of PCPC members and explore how they might best address this need in our body.

The response

We would like to invite anyone interested to join church leaders to discuss this need and how PCPC can respond.

  • October 23, noon, at Dallas Country Club
  • November 15, noon, at Dallas Country Club
